Are you keen to get out lead climbing on ‘the sharp end’ of the rope, but don’t want the faff of fiddly gear placements? Or you’ve been lead climbing indoors and want to take your skills further onto bolted routes outdoors? Our Intro to Sport Climbing one day course is an excellent springboard to help you gain the confidence and knowledge to head out and explore the amazing bolted sport climbing venues around the country.

All of our courses are run by highly qualified and experienced Mountaineering and Climbing Instructors (formerly MIA) who are members of the Association of Mountaineering Instructors, so you know you are in good hands when it comes to knowledge, safety and tailored, progressive teaching to help you get the most from your course.

Course Content:

Understanding Guide Books & Climbing Grades

Safe lead belaying

Appropriate route selection and route reading

Using a variety of assisted belay devices

Lowering off safely and cleaning routes

Clipping quickdraws and rope management

Use of the clip-stick

Lead climbing tactics

All safety equipment can be provided

Course requirements:

Outline of the day:
We will meet at the crag venue car park (car sharing options may be available), and after an initial meet and greet we will head out to the crag for the day. Your instructor will gradually introduce new skills and build on these as the day progresses. The day will end at 4pm with time to feedback and discuss the next steps for your climbing progression.

Kit to bring:

All climbing safety equipment can be provided

Harness and helmet (these can be borrowed)

Climbing shoes and chalk bag

Plenty of warm clothing

Waterproof jacket and waterproof trousers

Suncream, sunhat and sunglasses

Plenty of food, snacks and water

Please feel free to bring any climbing gear you have as your instructor will encourage you to learn with the equipment you will be using in the future
